How Opt-Out (Unsubscribe) Works With A Private Virtual Number

In this guide, you’ll learn how the unsubscribe mechanism works when you have subscribed to a private virtual number.

The good news is that there’s nothing to set up, private virtual numbers have the unsubscribe feature built in.

This means that when anyone texts back the word “Stop” (not case sensitive, i.e. can be capitals, upper lower, etc.) that particular subscriber will be moved to an unsubscribe folder which can be found by clicking on “Management/Export” inside your dashboard.

If you click on that contact group, you’ll see all of the people who have unsubcribed.

IMPORTANT

If you’re using the copy-and-paste method (i.e. pasting mobile numbers into the mobile number box) and the person has opted out BUT you still have them inside your contacts book then they will still receive SMS messages.

For example:

You create a contacts list and add mobile numbers to that list.

Then you decide to paste mobile numbers into the mobile numbers box and one of those recipients decide to opt-out.

Then you decide to send an SMS to everyone on your contacts list, the person who opted out will still receive a text message because they are still “active” on your main list.
